The news headline: Evangelist Oral Roberts dead at 91
How about we stop calling him an ‘evangelist’ and start calling him what he actually was: A Charlatan.
I hope, I really hope, he had repented and put his trust in Jesus for his salvation.
As for the charismatic movement he helped foster, I hope it realizes its own chicanery dies the death it should.

Hey, Chris! Nice to hear some criticism of Oral Roberts from the Christian perspective. As I’ve said elsewhere, while I enjoy debating the existence of God, it’s far more important to me what people actually do, and there are lots of Christians doing admirable works. Roberts was not one of them.
What do you think of Pat Robertson’s pronouncement that the earthquake in Haiti was God’s revenge for the Haitians having made a pact with the Devil 200 years ago in order to throw off the yoke of slavery from the French?

Hey zilch! While I’m not necessarily a fan of Pat Robertson, I believe his comments have been misinterpreted. There was a statement regarding this by CBN but unfortunately it went largely ignored. You can read it here: http://www.cbn.com/about/press.....haiti.aspx

Hey Chris! I watched Robertson’s interview, and I don’t see how it can be misinterpreted: he says “Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal.” He went on to say “ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other”. This statement by CBN is just an attempt at spin control, as far as I can see.
cheers from snowy Vienna, zilch

Well to say a country is cursed is not the same as saying the earthquake is a result of God’s revenge. Robertson said Haiti’s been cursed by one thing after another and if ever that would appear to be true for a country, Haiti would seem to be it. That doesn’t mean I agree with Pat Robertson, I just think he’s being misinterpreted.
